Iran Navy in Red Sea

 Iran has deployed a destroyer warship to the Red Sea area according to the Iranian Tasnim news agency. on 1 Jan 2024.

Iran authorities said this would bolster it's presence in international waters. 

Earlier , USA military Central Command gave a report on Twitter (X)   31/12/2023 about an attack from Houthi controlled Yemen on the container vessel "Maersk Hangzhou".

The Maersk ship flys a Singapore flag but is Danish owned and was in the Red Sea near Yemen.  It was struck by a missile launched from the area controlled by Houthi rebels (Iran backed).  US Warship Gravely responded to the incident and shot down 2 more missiles fired at the Maersk Hangzhou. 

The maritime website gcaptain adds that later on there was an attempt by Houthi small boats to board the vessel and this was repelled by Maersk armed security contractors. 

Iran International news reported that the US Warship sank 3 Houthi boats in the process of preventing a hijacking .  Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei vowed continued support for the Houthis. 

A later report from US Central command on "X" says that 4 small boats fired at US military helicopters of which 3 were destroyed and 1 made off.
