Police & Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore and Suffolk Chief Constable Rachel Kearton held a public meeting at The Wherry Oulton Broad last evening .
- They made reference to the new policing model which was introduced around Dec 2023 (see last years blog) . The model comprises Community Policing team, Response Investigation teams, and County partnership & prevention Hub. They said that this model was working well and has provided better engagement and visibility .
- Also said that the "right care right person" system was in place . This means someone other than a police officer may attend calls eg mental health worker.
- Starting to formulate a new Police and crime plan. The current plan for Suffolk covers 2022 - 2025 and these public meeting help inform that process. Th plan sets the direction for coming 3 years . Current objectives are 1. Efficient effective police force, 2.Support victims of crime, 3.community engagement, 4.Work with partners to enhamce safety.
- Police Training : Suffolk can have up 1430 officers and the Chief Constable said that almost had the full compliment. Training had now increased to 3years. Referring to stop search procedure , she said that Suffolk had the most positive results . [ Blog note - This implies that officers have a better record of searches being correctly carried out and justifiable rather than speculative].
- Tim Passmore complained (as he has for at least the past 2 years) about the police funding formula which he feels leaves Suffolk sometimes treated as a rural backwater in terms of resources . The CC chimed in that cyber crime and training had increased demand on resources.
