There were plenty of earlier claims about the effectiveness of masks and saving granny and the NHS by wearing one. This was a noble and virtuous idea. On 30 Jan 2023, Cochrane looked at medical/surgical masks as compared to no masks : scroll down their page to about the 7th heading
