Potters Bridge Wed 9 Nov 2022
Potters Bridge (Environment Agency / Suffolk COUNTY Council maintained) 6.45am Wednesday 9 November 2022 . Viewed as you travel along the B1127 Southwold Road (County Council maintained) from Wrentham towards Southwold.
There is a 10 metre stretch of water which is at least 3 inches deep at the centre and inches deeper at the edges. Some vehicles do plough through it and so hubcaps and plastic car parts can sometimes be seen in the water.
There are further rain showers today according to Met Office website. This won't help the water level across the road as the water drains from the land to the marsh.
It is rather odd that there are no flood alerts or warnings shown for Potters Bridge on the Environment Agency (EA) map.
There is a rain gauge at Worlingham which shows rainfall of 8.4mm over the last 24hrs. They have a map of "Statutory Rivers" and a flood risk map but you can't find these in one or two clicks and they show general risk rather than current situation. The EA has permissive powers but no duty to carry out maintenance. If I was short of money and didn't have to do something then I wouldn't do it either.
Can Frostenden Uggeshall and South Cove Parish Council make a byelaw for Potters Bridge under the Land Drainage Act 1991 sec 66 as it falls in their parish? Force owners and agencies to maintain.
